Speedway action returned to Kalkee on Saturday night with roar of V8 engines. Round 7 of the Sprintcar Allstar series was hosted at the Blue Ribbon Speedway track and drivers from all parts of Victoria, South Australia and ACT came to race.
Over 1000 speedway fans attended the race meeting and were rewarded with exciting and close racing.
The Soloman brothers of Melbourne, Chris and Paul, worked out the track early and both claimed heat race wins. In the second round of heat races it was Micheal Tancredi of Geelong and Jesse Nicholas of Shepparton who were triumphant in the heats.
A “Pole Shuffle” was conducted which saw the top six drivers raced each other in pairs to decide the starting positions of the feature race.
South Australian driver Daniel Evans of Lyrup, conquered the shuffle and started the feature race on pole alongside Chris Soloman.
It was Paul Soloman who got the jump on the field and started lapping the field after five laps. Daniel and Chris rivaled each other as they caught up to Paul.
Current championship points leader Brenten Farrer, battled his way through the field but struggled in the turns with lapped traffic. Chris and Daniel swapped top positions several times throughout the race, but Chris snatched the lead with a few laps to go to win the feature race followed by Daniel in second and Paul Soloman in third.
Limited Sportsman also featured on Saturday night to contest for the Les McMaster Memorial Trophy. Pimpinio driver Jock Baker, ruled the field in his newly built race car winning two of the heat races. Fellow club member Mark McDonald claimed the third heat race win. Baker was in a league of his own in the final race and almost lapped the entire field. Mark McDonald collected second position and Shaun Hutchins of Hamilton came in third.
V8 Trucks raced for the Robin Thomas Memorial Trophy. Horsham driver Luke James dominated the field claiming all three heat race wins. Horsham club members shared heat runner up positions; Fletcher Mills claimed two second positions and Tim Driller claimed two thirds. Luke James triumphed in the feature race, Fletcher Mills followed in second and Wes Bell in third.
In the support races, Street Stock heat wins were shared between Luke James and Swan Hill driver Kevin Apps. Warracknabeal driver Kathryn Jackson controlled in the Ladies Sedan races winning all three heats.
Racing returns to Blue Ribbon Raceway on February 25th and will feature Street Stocks and VSC Formula 500.
