Simpson Brings Home Di Watson Memorial
Horsham Motor Sports Club celebrated twenty years of racing at Blue Ribbon Raceway on Saturday. Speedway drivers from all corners of Victoria and South Australia made the journey to help celebrate the Kalkee track.
On top of the bill was the Victorian Modified Production Association who was also celebrating 20 years of association.
Twenty Years Of Racing
This Saturday marks twenty years of motor racing at Kalkee’s Blue Ribbon Raceway. Horsham Motorsports Club have plenty to celebrate when looking back on how the venue has been developed since the inaugural meeting.
In 1996 the club held its first race meeting at the newly built track. Facilities for the opening meeting were fairly basic, with hired portable toilets and a tent for a canteen. The complex now has some of the best facilities in Victoria.
82 Races at Blue Ribbon Raceway
The Queen’s Birthday weekend Speedway Carnival at Blue Ribbon Raceway began on Saturday afternoon, but not without earlier concern of drizzle for Horsham Motor Sports Club officials. Although the weather passed by midday the track surface was very greasy. The program featuring 82 races over the weekend was re-shuffled, 33 Wingless Sprint Cars were then the first to race in an attempt to dry out the track aided by their large race tyres.
A Weekend of Speedway Action
A big weekend of speedway is planned for Kalkee’s Blue Ribbon Raceway this weekend. The annual speedway carnival will be conducted Saturday and Sunday with over 100 drivers from across Victoria and South Australia racing.
The Wingless Sprint Cars have become a regular event at the carnival and will provide some action packed racing with 31 drivers nominated for the weekend.
