Did you know that Speedway Truck Racing was established here at the Blue Ribbon Raceway?
It was about 15 or 16 years ago the idea was thrown up between Shaun Queale, the late Robin Thomas and Wes Bell. Two trucks were built, approved by NASR and hit the track.
One of the founders, Wes Bell still races today! Currently steering HO22, an International with a 318 Dodge engine, that has been on the track for a year now.
Wes started his racing career in cars, many years ago, racing an EK Holden. He proudly tells me that his wife Gladys actually won more ribbons in that car than he did! Children came along and racing was push to the side until his son Leigh and daughter in-law Kylie hit the track at Blue Ribbon in Street Modified cars. That sparked his own interested again and that’s when the Truck Racing came into fruition.
